Graham Barrett, AM FRANZCO FRACS

​

Prof. Barrett received his medical training in Western Australia and is a Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Lions Eye Institute in Nedlands, Perth, Australia as well as Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Perth and is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Western Australia. His special areas of interest include cataract and implant surgery, as well as corneal and keratorefractive surgery.

Prof. Barrett has been especially active in the field of small incision cataract surgery and phacoemulsification and has published many papers on the subject and is the author of several chapters in text books on related topics. He has produced several videos on cataract and refractive surgery, which have won awards at the ASCRS and ESCRS Annual Film Festivals. He is the recipient of the Harold Ridley Medal of of both ESCRS and the Congress of German Ophthalmic Surgeons as well as the ASCRS Binkhorst Medal and Kelman Innovators Lecture, the lllC Medal of the International Intraocular Implant Club, the Haigis Memorial Lecture of the IOL Power Club and the Barraquer Award of the International Society of Refractive Surgeons.

 

His special areas of interests include, IOL power prediction formuls, new techniques in cataract surgery and IOL implant surgery, IOL design as well as refractive surgical techniques including epikeratoplasty, synthetic refractive on-lays and in-lays as well as keratoscopic devices. He has developed innovative instruments for many cataract surgical procedures as well as phacoemulsification equipment and IOLs which are widely used by surgeons.

 

Prof. Barrett has been on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (JCRS), European Journal of Implant and Refractive Surgery (EJIRC) and past international representative for the Asia Pacific Region of the International Society of Refractive Keratoplasty (ISRK). He is currently a board member of the International Society of Refractive Surgeons, Past President of the International lntraocular Implant Club, Past President of the Asia Pacific Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (APACRS), Editor of the EyeWorld Asia Pacific publication and founding President of the Australasian Soctéty of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.

 

He resides with his wife Anne in Perth, Australia.
