Adi Abulafia, MD PhD

Dr. Abulafia currently serves as the Director of Cataract Services at Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem and as the Chairman of the Israeli Society of Cataract Surgery. He born in Jerusalem, Israel on March 3, 1973 and graduated from Hadassah Medical School and completed an anterior segment fellowship in 2014 at the SCGH in Perth, Australia, under Prof. Graham Barrett. He has a PhD in medicine from the University of Amsterdam.
Dr. Abulafia is active in international cataract meetings as an invited speaker, moderator, panelist, and course instructor. He serves as an editorial board member of the Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery (JCRS), a member of the IOL power calculation subcommittee of the American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) and as a board member of the European Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery (ESCRS) where he also serves as a member of the Publication Committee.

He is Co-chair and founder of the research committee’s “Think Tank”, a member of the on-line IOL calculator team and coordinator of the ESCRS “Toric IOLs” Masterclass. His current areas of interest include complex cataract surgery, analysis of astigmatism and precision in IOL power calculation. He served as a core investigator of the RBF Calculator Project and, together with Prof. Douglas D. Koch, he developed the Abulafia-Koch formula.

He and his wife Adi Shacham-Abulafia live in Tel Aviv, Israel.
