He worked at the University of Michigan on the Femtosecond laser project with Prof. Gérard Mourou, Director of the Center for Ultrafast Optical Science (CUOS) (and the 2018 Nobel Prize in Physics), to develop the use of the femtosecond laser for eye surgery. Dr Colliac was the first to introduce femtosecond laser eye surgery in Europe.

Clinical practice

In 1992, he began private practice in Paris where he mainly performed general ophthalmology, cataract and refractive surgery. From 2000-2004, he has been on the team of Dr. Emanuel Rosen (co-founder and past President of ESCRS), to perform refractive surgery in the UK.
